Bill Macy - 2014
Awarded this 22nd day of February, 2014
This honor is extended as the department's highest achievement award for contributions to the development of the fire service in Campbell County. The Walk of Fame exemplifies the attributes of a firefighter who unselfishly gives of her/his time and talents to the community.
The Campbell County Fire Department (CCFD) proudly bestows on Bill Macy its 2014 Walk of Fame award. Bill has contributed more than 38 years of meritorious service to his friends and neighbors as a Volunteer Firefighter and officer.
In October 1975, Bill Macy joined CCFD as a Volunteer Firefighter when his boss Mick Okray (a Volunteer Firefighter) received a fire page and told Bill, "Jump in; we are going to a structure fire." In the four decades that followed Bill has served on numerous committees, as a Crew Boss in the County Crew System, as an Assistant Chief, and as a Bench Officer President. Bill also served as a Joint Powers Fire Board Member from 1993 to 1999; during this time he was instrumental in helping assure that CCFD kept pace with the growth of industry and population in Campbell County.
Bill Macy brought a wealth of experience to CCFD through his employment in the oil, coal, and methane industries. The fire department drew heavily on his expertise especially in the 1980s and 1990s when mobile home and oilfield fires were almost daily occurrences. At the monthly Battalion Business Meetings, Bill often led or participated in "lively discussions," and his name can be found in the minutes of many of these meetings as the member moving to adjourn.
Bill Macy is hereby awarded the Campbell County Fire Department Walk of Fame award in recognition of his unwavering support and 38 years of dedicated service. Bill exemplifies the true spirit of a volunteer firefighter, team player, friend, and dedicated community servant. His actions serve as an example to fellow firefighters keeping with the highest traditions of the Campbell County Fire Department.
