Internship Program 


PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Campbell County Fire is offering an internship program for students looking to enter the fire service. This program focuses on fire service development through classroom training, hands-on training, and real-world experience riding shifts at CCFD to assist prospective firefighters in obtaining a baseline education in firefighting. The program is split into a two- year and a four-year internship. Each year is a progressive step towards more advanced training and operational experience. Each student may be eligible for college credit for courses taken through a Fire Science Program if approved by the respective college or university.


ABOUT CAMPBELL COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT

The CCFD is an all hazards organization that is responsible for 4,807 square miles and approximately 47,000 citizens. We respond to all fires, hazardous materials, technical rescue, and life-threatening emergency medical incidents. In 2020 the CCFD responded to 2,453 incident requests for service, including 254 fires. CCFD has 32 career staff and over 60 part time members that are responsible for fire protection in Campbell County.


ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • H.S. Diploma or GED

  • At least 18 years of age at time internship starts

  • Pass background and driving record check

  • Pass written test

  • Pass physical agility test

  • Oral interview panel

  • Pass medical evaluation

  • Pass drug test

  • Pass background and driving record check

  • Enrolled in an institution approved by the Higher Learning Authority

  • National Registry or State of Wyoming EMT or acceptance into EMT program is desirable *Up to three students will be accepted into the program


APPLICANT SCREENING

Applicants will go through screening during the months of September and October prior to starting Year 1. All testing will happen in Gillette, WY. Applicants must pass the background test, written test, physical test, oral panel, and if selected through this progressive process will receive a conditional offer of internship subject to passing a medical evaluation, drug test, and driving record check.

Offers of internship will be made at the end of October prior to starting Year 1.
Each intern must sign an Internship Agreement to participate in the Internship Program.

Each intern will then be subject to an end of semester evaluation to proceed to the next semester of the internship.

Applications will be accepted between September 1st and September 24th. Invites to testing will be sent out by October 30th.

Testing will occur in Gillette, WY at the Alan Mickelson Fire Training Center (701 Larch Street) on October 19th and 20th.

Offers of internship will be made by October 30th.

*Note CCFD will provide coursework, opportunity, and testing. Certifiable qualification is not guaranteed. Students must complete all associated coursework and testing at a passing grade to receive certification.
