Public Education

The Campbell County Fire Department covers 5,000 square miles and with such a large response area we cover a diverse range of calls from structure fires, wildland fires, auto accident s and hazardous materials calls. The goal of public education within the department is to educate our citizens on fire safety , evacuation plans, smoke detectors and other home fire safety fire tips to save lives and decrease property damage due to fires.

We primarily target our younger population; school aged children with a fire safety program that takes place at Fire Station 1 during the month of October. We annually reach over 1,000 students with our fire safety message. We educate them on smoke detectors, evacuation plans, stop drop and roll as well as the difference between toys and tools. We encourage family participation in making the home fire safe. The fire department also donates smoke detectors to families who do not have working smoke detectors and who cannot afford them. We will also install these detectors for the handicapped or elderly. We don’t just educate the children though, throughout the year we are busy in the community participating at a number of events.
